http://www.startribune.com/as-gun-carrying-permits-reach-historic-levels-in-minnesota-related-crimes-remain-in-check/322600721/In 2003, the year Minnesota passed its permit-to-carry law, 15,000 five-year permits were issued. The number issued annually then decreased for several years. But by 2014, 184,985 Minnesotans held permits. Today, one in 20 Minnesotans has a permit, 19 percent of them women.
Opponents had feared that the law would lead to a surge in shootings and gun deaths. But Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension data show that fatalities involving permit holders are rare. In the past five years, there have been five deadly or nonlethal instances of justifiable use of a firearm by permit holders.
From 2013 to 2014, gun crimes reported to the BCA involving permit owners dropped in half. While the numbers may not tell the full story law enforcement cant track all gun owners who flash weapons only if needed for self-defense gun rights advocates say theyre telling.
Hope this isn't too local.

(6,185 posts)I thought we were the ones that were always afraid?
Why are the newspapers always "surprised" when the "blood doesn't run in the streets" after they pass CCW?
We're starting to get that in Illinois now. First from the LEO that opposed it, when they realize that violent crime didn't go up. Then from the media when they get around to assigning a reporter to do a follow up story.
It's like they totally ignore all the other states that have gone through it. Here they treated it like Illinois was doing this great "experiment" to see if the "citizens could be trusted".
Then nothing happens and they are surprised. Too bad they just can't be honest enough to say "we were wrong" and we were right all along.

(9,951 posts)the anti's went fucking berserk when it passed, predicting that the state would be red with rivers of blood, so far, nothing of the sort has happened, yet they won't admit they were wrong, they keep saying any day now.

(6,185 posts)Every time a state passes more liberal gun laws we see the same posts from the same "less informed" people; "What could possibly go wrong?"
I guess it's supposed to be sarcastic and snotty?
We heard it for Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Illinois, etc.
But it seems the answer, based on the reality, is; "Nothing you big dummy!"

(1,401 posts)and I have seen weapons carried by those that do not appear to be off-duty LEOs. While not ubiquitous, they are seen. (What part of GA?)

(18,576 posts)I'm home near Philly on weekends and about 1 week in 4. When I'm there, I'm usually working 10-11 hour days and stay at hotels between Downtown and Buckhead. I've never been much further South than the airport.
I missed the OC at the terminal character. Sat in traffic near GA Tech during the Pres's visit a few months back.
