Chesapeake man gets 23 years in shotgun murder of nephew

A 51-year-old Chesapeake man will spend 23 years in prison for fatally shooting his nephew with a shotgun last year.

Circuit Judge Randall D. Smith on Friday imposed the sentence a jury recommended for Roger Carpenter at his April trial. Jurors found Carpenter guilty of first-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Justin Waddell, 24, died March 15, 2014, inside the Great Bridge home he shared with Carpenter and Carpenter's parents and brother in the 1000 block of Chattanooga St. Carpenter admitted to police he shot his nephew but claimed self-defense, according to court documents.

"I didn't do it out of hate," Carpenter said Friday in court before his sentencing.

Regulations do you propose? Sounds like the current laws and jury system worked. I noticed it was not one of those scary black rifles that was used.

this can result in pressure spikes and catastrophic failure. Herds of cats may follow, resulting in charges of animal hording.
