Not a proponent of open carry, but I found this article from April interesting -- and I thought I'd pass it along. Scroll to last page:

(18,318 posts)Some think this is black & white, that there are legitimate "uses" for guns in rural areas, but no "need" for one in cities. It's not one big shooting range in rural Texas, even during hunting season, and urban areas are not pleasant, butterfly-populated Edens. People keep at least one gun in urban areas for SD because that's where the crime is. That is a legitimate Use.
Note: El Paso has over half a million population, and Juarez which abuts it, even more.

(5,046 posts)It's not "Repuke or Democrat" it is much more who is Urban, and who is Rural.
Even though it seems as if it is, it is because our party over the past few election cycles has so pissed off rural folks, that we Democrats have been virtually wiped out in "Flyover country"
All the bloviating about Gun Control has had a hand in that.
As a party we have not been this nationally weak in almost 100 years...

(2,375 posts)Funny how so many of The Controllers can broad-brush gun owners as they do when so many are Democrats. Very telling.
Also explains how they can dismiss highly credentialed "gun control" skeptics who are liberal.

(5,046 posts)It is nothing more than simple elitism, those in their Churches with ivory towers cannot be bothered to spend time with the rest of us. And since they never spend time with real folk, they are mind-numbingly clueless to many things.
