A 37-year-old Northfield man has been indicted on a federal machine gun possession charge.
The indictment, filed Thursday, says that Edward Evan Lasley, 37, of Northfield, was in possession of a Nodak Spud, LLC, model NDS-1948, 9 mm machine gun on July 15.
According to Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson, a federal warrant, filed on Tuesday, was served Wednesday around 10 a.m. on the 1000 block of Forest Avenue. The Northfield Police Department and members from the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offenders Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) worked together to serve the warrant, which was done without incident, he said.
As a result of the warrant, Lasley was arrested on a single federal count of illegal possession of a machine gun. Lasley was first placed in the Rice County jail and was later transferred to federal custody.

Next, we can charge people keeping containers of gasoline with possessing the precursors for building Molotov cocktails which we all know can become bombs, which we all know are weapons of mass destruction.
