Related: About this forumLocal Pawn Shop Upset Over Sentence For Illegal Gun Purchase in Orozco
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer described the sentence of a woman who purchased the gun used to shoot and kill Officer Kerrie Orozco as disappointing. Now a local pawn shop owner is saying he agrees with the Chief and believes a stricter sentence was needed.
According to investigators Jalita Johnson lied about who she was purchasing a gun for in a Georgia pawn shop. She said she was buying it for herself, but it was really for her boyfriend, Marcus Wheeler. Wheeler would later use it to shoot and kill Officer Kerrie Orozco in May 2015.
A federal judge handed down a sentence of one year probation for the crime. Johnson faces no jail time. She must complete 40 hours of community service and 180 days of home confinement. The maximum sentence would have been 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
At Sol's Jewelry and Loans in Omaha, John Dineen said the sentence was surprising. "Definitely was surprised by it I thought it should have been stricter on her," he told WOWT 6 News.

OP
Technically, I'm wrong. But such a light sentence is de facto non-enforcement, imo.

(17,502 posts)1. I'm hoping that you
agree with a pawn shop, although I don't know how a building can have an opinion. I was pretty disgusted with that sentence as well. BTW, so were Omaha cops. She could have been sentenced up to ten years.

She was convicted and sentenced for purchasing a gun for someone else.

that's why I'm of the opinion that we don't need anymore gun laws and should repeal the ones have.

(12,194 posts)9. How about placing the burden on those who shouldn't have guns eh?
Maybe even re-examining whether there is any such thing, as someone too dangerous to have a gun but not dangerous enough to warrant custody.
Of course, that doesn't help the gun hatred cause, so it will be ignored.
If traffic laws weren't being enforced, what would be the point of making new ones, or keeping the old ones?
