NY Sheriff: All Licensed Handgun Owners Should Carry Them

“In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to please do so,” wrote Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum in a Facebook post. “I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it.”

I had to take it at my workplace. They teach Run, Hide, Fight. In the event that running and hiding haven't worked, why wouldn't you want an effective weapon? That's the sheriff's point.

beyond the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island, the majority of whom support gun rights.

The fact that Republicans control the NYS Senate and that we've had a number of Republican governors should be the biggest clue.

Recommended in August that law-abiding citizens should arm themselves because he thinks doing so has helped reduce crime. I don't know. But police response times in that city can approach times for concrete to set up.

Likely. Gun nuts over estimate the risk. They are more paranoid than most.
