Joel Jenkins faced a Pike County judge Monday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Sheriff Charles Reader of Pike County says Jenkins contacted the work officer just before midnight on Thursday and said he was showing a weapon to a friend and there was an accidental discharge.
Investigators say 40-year-old Jason Brady died of a gunshot wound to the head. He lives across the street from Jenkins.

(6,185 posts)The correct term is "Negligent Discharge".
With the exception of reproduction firearms (1873 Colt SAA and the like) every firearm has a solid steel hammer block or other mechanical safety as part of the design, often more than one safety is built into the gun.
In virtually every case, when it's reviewed on tape for police, it turns out they had their finger in the trigger guard and had violated one or more of the 4 safety rules.
