Chicago shop owner, finally allowed to defend himself, shoots everyone but the robber

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/12/23/1455178/-Chicago-shop-owner-finally-allowed-to-defend-himself-shoots-everyone-but-the-robber-GunFAIL-CLXX

Freedom-loving Chicagoans are surely excited to finally be able to carry concealed firearms, especially folks with a particularly pressing need to protect themselves. Like the cell phone store owner who, defending himself from an armed robber, sprang into action to put a bullet in the chest of an innocent 27-year-old man at the bus stop across the street, and another through the wall of the apartment of a nearby family of five (and into their TV set). Take that, knave! Whoever you are, that is. Because he left the scene, unharmed. But he didn’t get away with the money! Which is a good thing, because maybe the store owner should pick up the hospital tab for the poor fellow across the street, or the repair bills for his neighbor’s walls, not to mention the TV. Still, freedom! Where else but in America could 16 hours of training buy you such deadly accuracy? Assuming you think public transportation and private consumer electronics are tyrannical, that is.

In other news, with the deer season winding down, the temporary spike in hunting-related accidents looks to be on its way down, too. By the time November rolled over into December, hunting accidents were steady at ten, up just two from the previous week. But in GunFAIL, kid season is year-round, and another 15 were hit in the week from November 29 through December 5. Nineteen people accidentally shot themselves, and five were shot by family members or significant others.

<snip>

It was also a rough week for take-out food delivery workers. A pizza delivery boy in Michigan was accidentally shot through the wall by a man showing off his gun in the barber shop next door. Two days later, in Toledo, a delivery worker was accidentally shot at a customer’s home by—get this—a gun knocked off a table by his dog. What’s your favorite amendment, Rex? Woof! Woof! That’s right! The Second! Who’s a good shot? Who’s a good shot? You are! Yes, you are!

...an article full of snark, sarcasm and hyperbole.. well.. yes it is.

Today, the need for unity and actions which bring together folks that see a means to actually make progress are sabotaged by the writings of those that simply appeal to more extreme folks on either side. I know making fun of your opposition gets you attention but that seldom leads to winning over any undecided hearts and minds.

Mr Waldman is just following the speeches of folks like Watts and Feinstein. You know why this type of talk is fine for the pro-gun side but not the pro-control side? That's because it's working for them. They're not looking for change; they want things to stay as they are. And nothing much is really changing. The history of the last 20 years is actual hard proof that all these speeches, cartoons and snarky articles aren't working.

But folks like Dave who wrote this and folks like you that post here quoting him can feel free to repeat what hasn't worked for a long, long time and expect new and different results.

80-90. A YEAR. No word if that includes falling from deer stands or having a coronary in a dove field.

If this article is any indication, pro-2A folks have nothing to worry about.

1/1000th of 1 percent of ALL hunters in the US, it is a very low number. Of course, as already mentioned, it's not so good for those who died, or their families and friends, but it does show that Hunter Safety classes are paying off.

I haved lived in, and hunted in, Florida, Georgia & Tennessee. I don't know if Florida still does, but Georgia and Tennessee both require proof that you have successfully passed a State Certified Hunters Safety Class before you can even purchase a hunting license. Here in Tennessee, I took the class for the first time when I was in 8th grade. The County Game Warden, still to this day, comes to the school twice a year for students. Since our County is also bordered by the Tennessee River, and a lake at the Watts Bar Dam Hydroelectric Nuclear Plant, we also have a large boating/fishing population. The Game Warden teaches Boaters Safety and Hunters Safety classes.

They also use the schools at night for the classes for others who need to complete the course. When my son took the class 4 years ago, I attended with him even though I didn't HAVE to. I figure that a "refresher class" can do no harm at all. I have taken the Tennessee class 3 times and the Georgia class twice. When I hunted in Florida, they accepted my certificate from Georgia, so I didn't have to take the class there.

I was raised around guns, and had the safety rules hammered into me for as far back as I can remember. My kids were raised the same way. As far as I am concerned, I think that gun safety should be taught in schools starting at Kindergarten or 1st grade so children know that guns are not toys, and know what to do if they encounter one.... "Don't touch it, go find an adult". Quell the "curiosity" at a young age and push gun safety as much as they do "Stranger Danger". Children are more often kidnapped or molested by people that they know rather than strangers, and are more apt to discover a gun at home, left out by an idiot parent, than finding one on the street, in a park, etc.

I hope that helped answer your question. Sorry it was so long, but teaching gun safety is a very passionate issue with me.

One last note: many fatal hunting accidents are caused by falls from tree stands, when the person doesn't use a safety harness to secure theirself from falling out of the stand if they fall asleep, many more are from idiots using a rope to raise or lower a LOADED gun up to, or down from, their tree stands and it snags on a branch and fires, and some are from idiots shooting at the first thing that moves, not being sure of their target, or what is beyond it.

EDUCATE, EDUCATE, AND EDUCATE!!

Peace,

Ghost
