Related: About this forumX-post from GD: There's a petition to allow 'open carry' at the GOP convention
SUMMARY: In July of 2016, the GOP will host its convention at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Though Ohio is an open carry state, which allows for the open carry of guns, the hosting venuethe Quicken Loans Arenastrictly forbids the carry of firearms on their premises.
According to the policy on their website, "firearms and other weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden on the premises of Quicken Loans Arena."
This is a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk. As the National Rifle Association has made clear, "gun-free zones" such as the Quicken Loans Arena are "the worst and most dangerous of all lies." The NRA, our leading defender of gun rights, has also correctly pointed out that "gun free zones... tell every insane killer in America... (the) safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk." (March 4, 2016 and Dec. 21, 2012)

(16,974 posts)Leave it up to the venue to decide. I am sure the law abiding will follow the rules.

(16,974 posts)You mean allow licensed concealed carry by people over 21 that pass a background check and have training.

(6,185 posts)Sadly, for now it's left up to the discretion of the individual University. But I expect that too will change too over time.
But on the plus side, Iowa just became the 40th state to legalize suppressors.
Also, the poster in question has yet to explain how they will magically know who if carrying and when?
Gun Chi?

(18,577 posts)...who carries for protection NEEDS to use their gun often.
Human101948
(3,457 posts)What does that mean?
discntnt_irny_srcsm
(18,577 posts)...anyone who carries for the purpose of self-defense had better be using that gun quite often...
Using it to shoot targets to improve accuracy, to train for reaction time and to practice distinguishing the between valid threats and innocents.

(87 posts)People tried to make this a thing at the NRA convention, claiming hypocrisy on the organization's part, when in reality (that little thing that so many anti-rights activists like to ignore) was that the venue itself set that rule, and only at one portion of the convention, not the NRA.
In this situation, however, we have the added possibility that the petition was started by anti-gun people trying to make the Republicans look bad. Personally, I think the Republicans do a really good job of that on their own, by, for instance, their candidates. This sort of manufactured controversy is rather childish, in my opinion. Why not talk about the actual issues, rather than trying to create one out of whole cloth...?
