Okla. mom defends herself and child

Never get between a mama bear and her cubs I think the saying goes. I'm posting this because it's a fairly high profile DGU. This widowed mom was able to defend herself from two men, at least one of which had a hunting knife. While I realize DGUs occur hundreds of times per day, I felt this one was particularly noteworthy due to the circumstances.

She called 911 before ending the threat, but the police cruiser just couldn't get there in time. It goes without saying, a 12 gauge is faster than law enforcement response. She was on the phone with 911 for 21 minutes.

"I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."

This incident was 4 years ago, and if I remember accompanying photos, she wielded a Stevens 311 double-barrel. I have a one for general bird & and squirrel hunting. No longer sold, it was very inexpensive and able to shoot any .12 ga loads with no problem.

Thank goodness she and her child were unharmed in this persistent attack.
