Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumMurkowski asks AG to review gun rules for marijuana users
The letter asks Lynch to reexamine federal gun regulations inconsistent with state laws where marijuana is legal. Along with banking federal laws prohibit bank involvement with marijuana businesses gun ownership exemplifies a schism between federal and state laws concerning cannabis.
A 2011 directive from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives specifically prohibits federal firearms dealers from selling to marijuana users, both medical and recreational. Private gun sales between individuals, which are not federally controlled, do not have this restriction.
As of December 2015, Alaska had 730 federal firearms license holders, about one for every 1,000 residents. According to a Columbia University study released in June 2015, Alaska also has the highest per capita gun ownership in the nation; 61.7 percent of Alaskans own one or more firearms.

(15,189 posts)You can be an alcoholic and bring your gun into bars, but using weed is a no no. ASSHOLES!!!!!
Although, most pot smokers are smart enough NOT to own a gun.

(17,502 posts)which is a federal law, and there is still a federal pot ban. Gun dealers have a federal license and robbing one is a federal crime. Legalize pot on the federal level, it becomes a nonissue. If the executive branch simply changes it from schedule one to, say, schedule for or five it might also work.

Many critics of the GCA, including a writer for The Nation whose name escapes me at the moment, thought it had to do with black control instead of crime control. Most of the gun restrictions that were passed in the 1920s that are eroding were exactly that.
lying on this form is punishable up to ten years.

(509 posts)Most places in Alaska, you cannot get to without using an aircraft. It is state law that if you fly out of sight of a city, you must have a firearm on board. That is for survival, killing something to eat as well as killing something that is trying to kill you.
Both Alaska brown (Kodiak) bears and polar bears will eat people. Also, there are both wolves and wolverines that will eat you. Wolverines are one of the most vicious animals out there. Bears will come into your house looking for food. They will rip doors off or push in windows to enter. You do not have to have a gun, but most everyone has one just in case.
So yes, in Alaska, guns are almost a requirement to live.

(17,502 posts)and they would be lying on the ATF from 4473 because pot is still controlled under federal law. The simple solution would be for congress to repeal the 80 year old prohibition or for and EO to change it from schedule one to schedule four or five.

(18,318 posts)...4473 mentions only marijuana by name, and puts a potential double felony whammy on an otherwise law-abiding person who ocassionally takes a toke. This provision is a remnant of Reefer Madness days, and needs to go.
