Democrats Plan to Roll Back Christie’s Gun Law Changes

Earlier this month Gov. Chris Christie loosened New Jersey’s gun laws by executive order.

The Legislature’s two Democratic majority leaders today announced a plan to roll back Christie’s order, especially the part that makes it easier to qualify for a firearm carry permit.

“If these regulations were adopted, it would allow every cab driver, pizza delivery driver, Uber driver and anyone else living or working in a high-crime neighborhood to qualify for a firearm permit,” said Sen. Loretta Weinberg.

Currently one must show a “justifiable need” to carry a gun because of a specific threat to one’s life.

"They also want to clarify how long it takes to get a gun permit, pointing to the case of Carol Bowne, a domestic violence victim stabbed to death by her boyfriend while awaiting a firearms permit."

They’re concerned that introducing firearms into an incendiary situation will not promote safety.
“Our concern is that by basically arming everyone and anyone at any time will just have the reverse effect of that,” Greenwald said.

Not TOO concerned of course, because apparently not just any body should qualify.

They really think a lot of themselves don't they? Almost like they think that the average joe/jane hangs on their every word whether to be armed or not, rather than choosing for him/her self.

Taxi driver is regularly the most dangerous occupation in the country. So if you are working the most dangerous occupation and are in a high-crime area but don't need a firearm one wonders why do even the police need firearms?

Apparently the only valid reason to have a firearm is if somebody has given you advance notice that they are going to kill you. Then they will consider it with the caveat that they want to make sure it will not escalate the situation.

Somebody shot at you and missed? Somebody stabbed you but you survived? Somebody threatened to kill you and you have it in writing or on an audio recording? You're testifying against organized crime figures?

Why don't we just wait until the applicants are actually killed? Then we'll be sure that the need was justifiable.

Earlier this month Gov. Chris Christie loosened New Jersey’s gun laws by executive order.

The Chris Christie Decline, good I suppose.
Since he began his run for president & his latter incomprehensible alliance with Trump, Chris Christie has lost a lot of respect & rapport he had previously built up with most of us democrats.
I thought quite highly of Christie as I watched him on the new jersey beach walking side by side with Obama, praising him for being there when new jersey was in need after sandy superstorm. I thought he was the republican's best chance at becoming president in 2016, smart, savvy, political expertise, former prosecuting attorney - a sharp mind, a sharp wit, even an admirable republican.
Then Christie degenerated into some kind of political sewer rat, taking cheap shots at Obama & other democrats; then his asinine endorsement of donald trump, comparatively so many incongruencies between them. Christie's ulterior motives were clear, and they were contemptible, abandon principle for the sake of obtaining more political power.
Somehow, Christie has squandered all the rapport & goodwill he had built up with democrats previously. Whereas he could've siphoned off 10 - 20% of democrats perhaps in a general election, now it's likely no net benefit, and dem leaning independents will abandon the sewer rat to the sinking ship.

Humpty Trumpty sits on a wall. Humpty Trumpty will have a big fall.
All of his horses & all of his men, won't put Trumpty Dumpty together again.
Chris Christie neither.
