Oh well, at least the gun is hopefully safe.
I guess they learned their lesson. Won't be leaving guns lying around again. MAYBE.

(31,827 posts)Why was a loaded firearm left in a place that could be accessed by a 3 year old.

(3,194 posts)The sad part of the story is that the boy did not kill the person responsible, mom and/or dad.
He should have taken lessons like Jamie Gilt's son, on how to aim.

I'm always surprised by a post like this:

(6,771 posts)It was negligence, and it was eminently avoidable. I recommend the following non-political publication:

Actually, taking the entire course would be preferable, but in lieu of that, an afternoon spent with the manual will go a long way toward avoiding such tragedies.

Oh silly me! That would be way too much of an inconvenience because gunz is sooooooo special and nothing can get between any damn fool and a gun.

And then dispense with waiting periods, weapons bans, mag limits, "may issue" permitting, no-gun zones, and the rest of that nonsense, and you'd have a safer society.

(6,185 posts)Mandatory training, like the mandatory liability insurance scam idea will be a big financial boon to the NRA folks.
Plus, trading off all the ineffective laws you listed make it a winning idea.

(14,559 posts)And when will a petition or letters to the editor or your gov reps or to the NRA and NSSF demanding they pressure congress to pass this?
Yeah, I thought so.

(6,771 posts)... of safety, unlike any of those measures.
Considering that a bill like this hasn't even been proposed, either at the state or federal level, what is it exactly that I'm supposed to be demanding? I've already written many letters to representatives at the state level, opposing useless legislation and encouraging gun safety training in schools. I'm also certified to teach these classes, and have taught them pro bono for local gun clubs.
Is that what you "thought"?
If you feel like advocating for the federal legislation -- which, by the way, was your idea in the first place -- then go right ahead.

(12,194 posts)In highschool, for everyone. Tax credits to pay for private training for those who drop out.
Then theres no need to make it a requirement to buy, because everyone will already have it before being old enough to buy a gun.
When are you going to start writing your letters?
