Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumQuestion for the controllers....
If you could ban just one gun, which one would it be? Please provide a public safety justification in your response if you don't mind.
Any on topic response is appreciated. I thought this thread up in honor of the Brady Campaign's futile attempt to ban the 5.7x28mm about a decade ago.

(1,941 posts)I hope we will be pleasantly surprised. But you are right..I'm not expecting anything. If someone shows up and says .50 BMG "cuz ya just don't need all that" ...I will be happy.

(1,098 posts)9mm would be my first choice, with .22 and .38 close behind.
CompanyFirstSergeant
(1,558 posts)....or you like .38???
Besides, those are the three calibers I am 'accumulating.'

(17,502 posts)In some countries, like Italy, the 9x19 is banned for civilians, so they buy
9x21. I usually carry a 9x17. My wife has a 9x18 GDR military surplus pistol.
BTW, why them? Why not the more powerful .357, .44 mag?
CompanyFirstSergeant
(1,558 posts)For some reason I thought he meant ban the ammo.
What is a ban anyway?
Isn't murder banned? Bank robbery banned?
In my opinion, the word ban has a sharp, clean, final sound to it to make people think that 'everything is taken care of.'
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Shows you how delusional the anti's are.
One other thing.... who is going to come over to my neighborhood and enforce the ban?
You want to see gun nuts???? Visit the Catskills region of New York.
Around here, the cops are the biggest proponents of armed citizenry.
They have told the governor where to put his assault rifle ban.
Straw Man
(6,771 posts)... those are the most common calibers, obviously. It's simple gun-control logic: If these calibers statistically kill the most people, banning them will save lives. After all, we all know that's impossible to kill with a .25 or a .40 or a .45 handgun.
Matrosov
(1,098 posts)..you go after the ones most commonly used in crimes.
Going after AR15s and Barrett sniper rifles makes the least sense from that point of view.

(470 posts)but even if "the ones most commonly used in crimes." are banned/restricted, wont they just switch to something else.

(6,409 posts)Some semi-auto rifles can be easily converted to full auto. We might consider requiring that all rifles be made difficult or impossible to convert to fully auto.

(8,614 posts)Please give us a list of them.
Surly you know which ones they are.
HassleCat
(6,409 posts)I have never considered the possibility, since I don't feel the need for a full auto weapon. But you can get some idea by looking at the parts and accessories available for various weapons.
oneshooter
(8,614 posts)Any "parts and accessories" that readily convert a as emi auto to full auto are illegal to possess without BATFE permits and tax stamps.
To sell those "parts and accessories" would be a violation of Federal Law and subject to fines and incarceration in a Federal facilitie.
beevul
(12,194 posts)We already do essentially that. Any weapon that the ATF considers "easily converter" is considered by law, to be a machine gun and subject to the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Its already the law.
