Taking your AR-15 out on a dinner date really IS more dangerous than posting on DU.

So dangerous, in fact, that I'd run for my life if that happened in any restaurant that I was eating in.

Folks who claim that posting on DU is as dangerous as going out on a dinner date with your AR-15 are either:

(1) trying to convince you to just sit there and wait to be shot when somebody brings their AR-15 out on a dinner date with them,

or,

(2) trying to convince you that it is too dangerous to post on DU and that you should stop posting here.

Personally, given the choice between posting on DU and dining with some ammosexual and his AR-15 lover, I'll choose DU any day of the week, warts and all.

That said, comparing DU with deadly weapons is much less offensive than comparing Black folks, Gay folks, or Trans folks to deadly weapons.

At least DU isn't human, so the comparison isn't as dehumanizing as some of the others comparisons that get made here regularly.

By the way, why do we never see Straight White Males compared with deadly weapons here on DU?

Do we not look dangerous enough for such comparisons to be made?

So, which is more dangerous?

How many people have been killed or even wounded by an AR-15 rifle while dining at a restaurant? To have such a irrational fear that you would commit theft and leave without paying for no danger is indeed sad. Of course now with your idiot poll, you compare a legal protest, which I do not agree with with racism and homaphobia? SICK. I may not agree with the protest but I have spent 30 years to ensure people can protest as long as it is legal.

As we all know it is very unfortunate that there are enough dumb fucks out in the real world who will purposely target interracial couples, gay folks, black folks, white folks, trans folks, &c.; scum who will treat others as less then human simply because of color, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or some identified weakness.

Sad reality that people may become victims, and sometimes for no other reason then racist hate, bigotry and ignorance.

There are various ways to deal with the dangers of being victimized.
Running for your life is certainly one option, and it has its obvious perks. Flight is a natural reaction when contemplating a perceived threat.

Anyway, irregardless of the actual danger, I wouldn't be totally comfortable around a stranger out at a restaurant with an AR...It would make me at the least...curious, and certainly a bit leery.

Has this happened to you a lot?

Time before that, a FN FNS. If you were at the next table, you wouldn't have been alarmed.

An AR is way too big to conceal, which is a big reason why rifles are the least misused of all weapons. It's also heavy and bulky, in spite of the small caliber, and you can't wear it.

You do realize that the only people who ever took AR's to restaurants were a handful of clueless publicity-seekers a couple years ago, right?

What really bothers you, and what you're trying your best to criminalize, is peons like me who have an AR in the gun safe and take it to the shooting range regularly. Such horrific deeds deserve felony punishments, ja?

12 people from 5 years old to 93, all know I carry.

The restaurant is a sponsor of the Illinois State Rifle Assn. newsletter ... and serves a great cut of prime rib. Great old fashioned steak house, with Sinatra on the speakers and an experienced wait staff.

But, its located in what has turned into a kind of sketchy industrial park and you have to park up and down the street.

Amazingly, nobody freaked about my IWB Kimber or Dad's S&W snubbie in a Galco pocket holster I bought him, for that matter. Nobody squealed and ran away, not even the little girls.

But everyone at the table knew they were there. Funny how that works, ain't it?

(I wish I could have bailed on that check! But 93rd Birthdays only come around so often.)

But ultimately, 1911s are what I'm most comfortable with and shoot best and the Ultra Carry is about as small as they get.

I have a Colt Government Pocketlite in .380 at 12 oz. (Mini 1911) but it doesn't have the grip safety and I like that extra level of security for carry.

Nothing wrong with a Dan Wesson either.

50. The problem with 'rating' AR's
Fri May 13, 2016, 06:22 PM
May 2016

Is that so many of the components come from the same places.

The upper and lower are mostly from Cerro Forge (the key logo) and many of the components are also sourced from the same places.

Some have M4 fed ramps (is that really important????) and some have a bead blasted bolt carrier (same comment)

And all the components can be changed, swapped out, upgraded, etc.

My advice - buy what you want to own/the best you can comfortably afford. If it's a Del Ton then great.

I only own 2 guns - a Smith revolver and a Mauser bolt action.

If I were to buy an AR it would be a Colt. A shotgun - a Rem 870. A semi auto... a 1911

You get the idea.....

Most have Colt parts for the upper, barrel and bolt carrier group.

FWIW, The M4 ramps are nice to have for reliable feeding.

When you build it yourself, you know all there is to know about that rifle and if it starts having a problem; FTF, FTE, double feed etc. you'll know what's wrong with it better than anybody that writes a check for one.

The trick to building one is to not have the tiny little detent springs windup in an obscure corner of your kitchen, never to be seen again until the cat pukes it up.

The basic assembly tools from Brownell's are worth their weight in gold, especially for putting the dust cover in place.

You come into this group and others with your obsession about guns and killing. I' m not the only person who's sick of you dropping it in wherever you like - however irrelevant. The smiley was a comment on your gun fetish and your awkward way of posting which turns most threads into a discussion of you, your obsessions, your devoutedly-Catholic wife and your imagined slights against her and your desire to turn every thread into a meta discussion about how cruel the world is to you and yours.

You have no sense of humour, little self-awareness and no idea of what's going on around you most of the time. There is an irony (lost to you but certainly not to others) in the fact that when someone posts something that actually is a comment on you, you completely fail to see it.

By the way, I find your continued use of the term "ammosexual" to be insulting to people who are victims of bigotry because of their sexuality.

Incidentally I live in a country in which we rarely see gun worship. I've never even seen a gun and have no desire to play with them like many of your fellow Americans. The idea that I might be a gun-worshipper is even more ridiculous than most of your other ideas.
