National Gun Violence Awareness Day started in 2015 on what would have been the 18th birthday of Hadiya Pendleton, a high school student from Chicago who was shot and killed in 2013 just one week after performing at President Barack Obamas second inauguration.
An epidemic of gun violence has cost too many Californians their lives and jeopardized public safety for too long, Attorney General Kamala Harris said. As Californias chief law enforcement officer, I see the urgent need to pass sensible gun safety legislation that aims to keep our streets and communities safe. This is why I am working with members of our legislature to pursue these common sense policies.

(86 posts)California has a higher murder rate than 27 states and is tied with Texas for murder rate.
Odd all those states have more freedom and a lower murder rate than they.
Perhaps they should try a "self-awareness" day to try and resolve this.

New Jersey is ranked near North Korea for gun laws.
OK, I exaggerate.
North Korea is not that bad.

CA leads the nation in lives lost, having 33+ percent more gun murders with 1257, than pro-gun texas with its 805.
This, in spite CA having much much stricter gun control, and in spite of texas having what approaches double the gun ownership rate at 35.9%, to CAs 21.3%.
But gee, as long as they have the same rate, none of those other details matter, right?
And...not to pick nits, but, according to what I'm reading, Texas has a slightly higher overall murder rate at 5.0 per 100k, while CA is at 4.9.
That strikes me as interesting, since the gun murder rate is lower in pro gun Texas at 3.2, than it is in gun control utopia CA at 3.4.

In general, I thought it was lives that mattered to you anti-gunners, not rates.
The fact that you lot switch when its convenient is pretty obvious.
