Lt. Governor of California and LGBT advocate, Gavin Newsom (D) has upset many LGBT people on Facebook because of comments he made in response to a transgender womans remarks regarding his planned California gun control measure.
Nicki from Fresno posted this question on Facebook in response to the former San Francisco mayor's recent "Safety For All" initiative, a restrictive open carry policy: If Gavin Newsom gets this passed, how will transgender women like me be able to protect ourselves?
Several people took offense to Newsons response and defended Nicki, saying she is a member of the Pink Pistols, an LGBT firearm advocacy group; she is not a part of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Newsoms feed became a hotbed of mostly negative remarks calling him transphobic and mis-informed:

(3,477 posts)Don't support his agenda, they must be mindless puppets. It will be interesting to see if any of our resident controllers agree.

If they stand separately, that's cool too.

(594 posts)Is not an open carry measure, rather it is an initiative that seeks to severely restrict ammunition sales by requiring background checks (for a fee of course), requiring ammunition sellers to have a special license to sell (for a fee of course) and prohibits internet sales as well as prohibiting importation of ammunition from out of state.
Gavin Nuisance is doing this as part political theatre, and part fundraising for his expected Gubernatorial run in 2018. Any money left over from fundraising for this initiative can go to his campaign finance before he actually allowed to raise money for it.
Even if this measure is approved by the voters, expect it to get struck down PDQ by the courts. It is akin to restricting the freedom of the press by limiting access to printer's ink.

Given that I like shark finning as much as Bloomberg likes gun shows, it didn't make a positive impression on me.

(18,318 posts)National-scale politician being taken to task by a minority group over a gun issue.
But the OP was made in THIS group out of respect for DU's guidelines.

(2,493 posts)And loved the state and the people. Sounds like Newsom is an idiot though. Hopefully the good people of California will replace him with someone who respects all of the Bill of Rights and doesn't pick and choose which civil liberties they'll support.

(470 posts)"Having marched with Nicki in the Pride Parade in SF, attended trainings with her for beginners refusing to be a victim, I can tell you that she has more integrity and respect for human rights than most on the Left or Right could muster. She would never be a tool for any group and to say that the LGBT community needs to back 'common sense' gun laws because he believes they belong to a prescribed political agenda is nonsense." one of the many people that commented on this story.
