The NRA's unwarranted panic about Hillary Clinton

In 2008, the National Rifle Association issued dire warnings of what would happen if Barack Obama were elected president. He would be "the most anti-gun president in American history," the NRA declared. He would, it said, strip away the right to use a gun for home defense, ban the sale and ownership of handguns, and "increase federal taxes on guns and ammunition by 500 percent."

Obama didn't propose any of those measures, much less achieve them. But never mind. This year, the NRA is making even darker predictions about Hillary Clinton.

"If she could, Hillary would ban every gun, destroy every magazine, run an entire national security industry into the ground and put your name on a government registration list," Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said the other day. "If she gets her hands on the Supreme Court and stacks it with just one more justice, every total gun ban she dreams — every confiscation scheme she craves — will stand up in her court and we'll be kissing our Second Amendment freedom goodbye."

Most of those accusations are the product of LaPierre's overactive imagination. But amid all the hyperbole, he has a point.

interesting. Just go to Walmart and watch people for a while and just asked yourself if you would want all of them to carry a gun.

Perhaps so...

She will be a gold mine for 2A fundraising and firearm sales. I'm a Hillary supporter, and I acknowledge it and accept it.

More guns being sold, more money for lobbying, and an overall expansion of our rights. I can only hope she will be as big of a boost for sales as Obama has the last eight years. I mean that.

A ban on "assault weapons" and seemed open to the idea of an Australian-style gun grab. Her statements on the latter point were just politically naive - the Second Amendment prohibits the government from seizing guns and there's no political support for such a move, so she took a position that is both unconstitutional and politically unpalatable but still gives her opponents fodder for attacking her as a gun-grabber. She appears to oppose individual ownership of firearms, but she can't really do anything about it.
