Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton has sensible attitude on guns, gun owners
On average, more than 108,000 people (including 17,000 children and teens) are shot in the United States each year, resulting in more than 30,000 deaths and 75,000 injuries. These numbers dwarf what we saw globally with the Ebola crisis, and far exceed what we might be anticipating from the Zika virus.
We believe that if you strip away the political rhetoric in this uniquely heated presidential election season and the long-standing ideological hysteria, on both sides of the argument, there are solutions where the vast majority of gun owners and gun safety advocates can find common ground.

(18,318 posts)Rather queer to call "GunViolence®" an epidemic when violence using guns is declining. Even more curious when you can find neighborhoods with blow-it-out violence in close proximity to neighborhoods with low violence. Yellow fever and bubonic didn't care about nighborhoods.
And the old hand-crank siren of "30,000 gun deaths" when two-thirds of these are suicides. Perhaps there is a Romulon Plasma Anomaly combined with tonsilar syphillis which causes folks to check out of the Hotel California, but I suspect the causes are more psychological; choice of conveyance is a rather inert secondary choice.
But that's Hillary:. Finding a magical middle road between all those other extremists. Heh. Her middle road is the wind through the trees, at any particular time.

(470 posts)"I did a phone interview with the Sacramento Bee about the Nicki Stallard's article. I spent 15 minutes on the phone educating the reporter on the types of danger transgender has to face, from the perspective of being a secondary victim, but also as a witness to police's nonchalant blame-the-victim attitude here in Oakland. People have to understand that this type of hate crime is essentially lynching, that victims are "hunted" for sport. There is no negotiation from the victim with the "hunters". They want the prey dead, period, if they can do it, while the police behaved more like wildlife watchers and observed the aftermath with amusement, often siding with the predators as if it were the Safari."

why are politicians so unwilling to allow victims the tools to protect themselves?
