Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumWear orange Thursday to show support for curbing gun violence
I want people to understand the national debate about gun control is a political one. A majority of Congress resists legislation that would address gun violence because of political efforts by gun-rights advocates like the National Rifle Association of America.
The NRA is very successful at lobbying and politicking. We should be having a conversation about limiting armed violence while protecting the constitutional rights of sportsmen who want to pass along cherished family legacies, and property owners who want to guard themselves against intruders.
Instead, the national narrative on gun control plays on fears that the government wants to take away everyone's weapons and constitutionally protected rights.

Of course, most of those named probably think that the reasoning put forward in the O.P. is nonsensical posturing and concern-trolling.

(470 posts)we need more people like that in this world.
unfortunately there are people in this world that prey on the innocent, young, sick/frail, and elderly. i believe in no gods, nor took any vows of peace. i believe in using appropriate force to defend myself and my loved ones.

The new guy running it is funny though. Froths at the mouth a lot and yells insults at everybody, even people that agree with him.
That's what got him invited to leave that group and DU a while back.

The 2A isn't about hunting, and with Conceal Carry being popular it's pretty evident that Americans like the idea of being able to defend themselves instead of rolling over and waiting for a bullet in the head.

It's been said here dozens of times, but it bears repeating: All rifles, of which "assault weapons" are a subset, are responsible for fewer deaths per year than "hands, fists, and feet." If all of them were to disappear tomorrow, there would be no discernible difference in the murder rate.

Nope. Sorry.
You want to save LOTS of lives? Ban alcohol immediately. Almost 90,000 people die each year from alcohol-related causes, or about 3 times as many as die from murders and suicides involving guns.

You would think an activist group would want to promote National Gun Violence Awareness Day. I would have expected them talking about how they were wearing orange, spreading the word about how to prevent gun violence, going to rallies etc.
Perhaps it was meant to be posted but the hosts could not get it approved by the zampolit.

Stopped at three different malls (yuck!!) and was in downtown Chicago for a birthday lunch and ... aside from a glass of OJ this morning and the vest on a cop directing traffic, never saw a lick of orange clothing.
Another "yuuuuuge" win for gun control.
