Gun buy-back program turns weapons into jewelry

Gun serial numbers typically flash from holsters on hips, but Jessica Mindich would rather they flash from arms and dress shirts.

A philanthropic jewelry maker residing in Connecticut, Mindich, 45, created the Caliber Collection to turn illegal and unwanted guns into something that can do no harm: jewelry.

Mindich will use weapons gathered from this Saturday’s Cash for Caliber buy-back program at the Mathis Community Center in Detroit for her next set of bracelets and cuff links. During the program from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., anyone can turn in an unloaded gun — no questions asked — and receive a $50 Visa gift card in exchange.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon, Judge Greg Mathis of the courtroom reality TV show “Judge Mathis” and Mindich organized Cash for Caliber in an attempt to get guns off Detroit streets and prevent unnecessary loss of life.

...help

Gun "buy backs" (how is it a "buy back" if the entity buying them "back" didn't sell them in the first place?) are a method for getting rid of crime and junk guns. You rarely see any quality, operating firearms turned in. It's theatre, not public safety.

They don't keep track of who turned in which gun anyway, so even if they did find one that was used, there's no way to trace it back to the owner.

So gun buy backs are really a great place to get rid of a murder weapon and ... get a gift card you can use to buy a new gun.

But gun grabbers, that demand universal background checks, sure seem to love them and the whole "No Questions Asked" policy for some odd reason.

How those who want every firearm transaction tracked for the entire existence of the firearm seem to have no trouble with no questions asked turn-ins

We understand that many of our members might hold some conservative viewpoints on isolated issues, but nobody here should be parroting hateful garbage from the RNC, the NRA, or the Family Research Council. Forum members should expect that the only time they'll have to read a right-wing smear or an article from Breitbart is when someone is pointing and laughing at it.

Theres nothing liberal about more gun restrictions. NOTHING.

In fact, support for the second amendment is a classic liberal position.
