Chicago is My Kind of Town .... and Neil Steinberg is my kind of asshole

Last week Chicago Sun Times Columnist, self admitted drunk and multiple time domestic abuser, Neil Steinberg went to "The Valley of Death" e.g. Maxxon Shooter's Supply and tried to buy an AR15 for one of those "See how easy it is" columns.

(Never mind that Chicago/Cook County has an AWB, it was for the sake of journalism, so the laws don't apply I guess.)

Maxxon filled out the 4473 with him, but after the NICS call they had to refuse to sell one to him, based on his police record for drunk driving and his well published instances of domestic abuse, for the safety of his wife and neighbors. Then, when he started to rant and rave, they athrew him out of the store.

So, now Steinberg has decided that the real reason Maxxon Shooters Supply refused to sell him an AR15 was because he's a reporter. Has nothing to do with his own behavior or lying on Federal Form 4473, where it asks about domestic violence incidents and substance abuse, or that he failed the FBI background check. Besides, he says, "they sell them in the dark out the back door anyway, so I could get one if I really wanted to".

No Neil, it has nothing to do with you being a reporter, they just aren't sold by reputable dealers to drunken assholes like you that slap their wives around and lie on Federal Forms.

But it does reinforce the idea some have, that many gun control supporter might not be able to pass a NICS check anyway.

The real question for me is, why does the Sun Times still have this guy on their payroll?

Maybe there should be FBI background checks for journalists too?

he wasn't convicted, but one of the clerks reads his columns and saw where he admitted it to his readers. I take it Illinois has a waiting period for long guns? That is when he got the phone call "no sale."
I wouldn't have sold it to him either.

They write the time of your approved NICS check right on your receipt, so there's no confusion or exceptions about exactly when you can pick the gun up, e.g. "1:42PM on 6/23/2016".

Show up at 1:30 and you just have to wait. Their FFL depends on doing it right.

Lying on a 4473 is a felony.

If he answered yes on any of the disqualifying question, they would have denied him instantly. If it took them a while, its possible he lied on the 4473.

What has been suggested, check up on buyers before selling. A gun dealer is never required to make a sale.

Donne Trotter and two other gun control proponents from the state legislature have tried to board planes at Midway with loaded guns in their carry-on bags. 'They gorgot it was there". And this was before we even allowed concealed carry in Illinois

Then Trotter tried to claim he was an off duty Sky Marshal. How stupid do you have to be to try and claim that, while talking to the TSA head for the airport?
