Utah Restaurant Staff to Stop Open-Carrying Guns After Move

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS OGDEN, Utah — Aug 20, 2016, 7:04 PM ET

A Utah restaurant known for kilt-clad servers who openly carry firearms will have to keep them under wraps starting this week.

The staff at Sea Bears Ogden Fish House can only carry concealed weapons now that the eatery has relocated to the city's historic Union Station.

Officials with the Union Station Foundation are not allowing open carry of firearms, the Standard-Examiner of Ogden reported ( http://bit.ly/2bKqljM ). Initially, the contract that foundation executive Elizabeth Sutton negotiated with Sea Bears permitted open-carry but with conditions. They included owners and wait staff with firearms had to have undergone safety classes and background checks. Also, weapons had to be in holsters and guns could not be longer than 12 inches. All weapons could not be permitted outside of the restaurant in other parts of Union Station.

The Union Station Foundation, however, received complaints that Sea Bears would retain its open-carry policy. As a result, Sutton exercised a provision that Union Station could ban open-carry altogether if the subject became an issue.

No open-carry guns will be allowed in Sea Bears at Union Station

SATURDAY , AUGUST 20, 2016 - 5:30 AM

OGDEN — I’ll have the fish and chips — and hold the holster.

Sea Bears Ogden Fish House, which made headlines earlier this spring for the restaurant’s practice of being an “open-carry” business, may be putting away the guns. Or, at the very least, concealing them.

For more than a year now, owners, employees and patrons of the restaurant at 2550 Washington Blvd. have been invited to open-carry the firearm of their choice in the establishment. But with the recent announcement Sea Bears is relocating to the former site of Union Grill, Ogden’s Union Station officials now say they won’t permit openly carrying a gun there.

"In this day and age, to see somebody carrying in public, you don't know right away if it's friendly or scary," Sutton said. "So, to make everyone feel safe, we felt that open-carry does not meet our mission and goal."

I will give you the benefit of saying the former. As I have always been for UBC, strengthening the enforcement of current laws. Am not against firearms training and some kind of licence to own. I even think that licence could have an endorsement by type of firearm. Bolt action, revolver, semi pistol, semi rifle. Ensure weapons are removed if a person becomes a prohibited person. Charge people for negligent discharges or a child gets hold of a firearm. Free Gun locks and a voucher for at least a basic firearms safe for long weapons. Magazine size limits to 20 rounds and a government buyback for larger functional magazines. Not to mention universal health care to include mental health coverage. Really the only things I am against are confiscation without due process, cosmetic feature bans and government registration.

Those are just off the top of my head for a start.

And please, don't annoy them with facts or reality.

It's much easier to stereotype everyone than actually think about it. They don't have any idea about the SAF, GOA or the 50 plus state association, the ones that are actually whipping their ass in court, and that have nothing to do with the NRA.

Very simple minds need very simple solutions, one scary "bogey man" is all they can handle. That's why most of their "knowledge" comes from bumper stickers they see online and Grabnutz posts..

we NRA members go shooting all the time, in fact that's the whole purpose of the NRA is to train with your firearm in a safe and respectful manner. Dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops, Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association in 1871. The primary goal of the association would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," according to a magazine editorial written by Church.

But feel free to run to the other group and tell them how courageous you were to confront those silly gun humpers, then run away, rather than engage. There, you don't have to do anything but nod yes to the 2 or 3 people that post there.

Always openings for another bobblehead there. Just make sure you always agree with the latest host, or you'll be gone in a flash

With supporters like you, no wonder gun control is such a pathetic excuse for a "movement".

and I contribute monthly to keeping it going. I don't see your gold star anywhere.

I served in the Marines for eight years so I'm quite familiar with how to safely handle multiple types of weapon thank you very much. That does not change the reality that homes with weapons in them are more dangerous than those without. Then there's the simple fact that every gun owner is law abiding right up until the moment they aren't. But go ahead and keep up with your delusions.

About drunk and distracted drivers than I am firearms owners. Especially the ones that have concealed carry permits. Those drivers are also law abiding until they decide to not be. Alcohol kills and causes much more medical harm than firearms. I hope you are also against that as well.

Too bad the Marine's didn't teach you any manners, on how to engage in conversations with people on a productive basis without being insulting and rude.

"Delusions", huh? So why, with record gun sales year after year, is violent crime now at a 20+ year low? Shouldn't it be skyrocketing according to your world view?

(And FWIW, this group is full of veterans including some lifers, so tuck that credential in your back pocket. Waving it around here doesn't buy you any extra credibility on this issue.)

Saying someone is "law abiding, up until they aren't" is an ignorant dodge for people with no real support. You can say the same thing about an armed robber, child molestor, Ponzi scheme et. al. It sounds "deep" and means jack shit.

You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.

Now, where's your evidence that homes with guns are more dangerous?

And please don't embarrass yourself and insult out intelligence with the 30 year old and mutli-time discredited Kellerman Study.

The simple fact is, that 99.9x percent of gun owners don't venture into the 'aren't' category where gun violence is concerned.

An inadvertent omission on your part, I'm sure.

And never did it occur to millions and millions and millions of them to even contemplate becoming criminals. Nor will they.

Whether cops, USMC, civilians, etc etc., plenty of different experiences to go around. With no delusions necessary.
