For every "someone saves the day with a gun" story, I'm happy to provide several "Toddler shoots sister/brother" or "dad shoots family" or "mom shoots family" stories to provide you some balance.

(18,318 posts)If you are betting, put your $ on electrocution, falls, drowning, household poisons, burns, etc. FAR MORE kids killed/year. But not as glamorous and newsworthy to WaPo, etc.

(2,620 posts)drunk drivers = ~200 dead kids per year.
But again, because it's not about guns, drunk-related deaths are not glamorous either.

(884 posts)that have a bad ending?
That's a shame, really.
I like to focus on the positive outcomes myself.

(11,816 posts)The NH legislator's gun didn't go off when she dropped it, so none of the little children that were at the hearings about full-day kindergarten got shot! Yay!

(11,996 posts)The majority of the deaths occur in June, July and August; most in backyard pools.
Among unintentional injuries, drowning is the second leading cause of death to this age group after motor vehicle accidents. In some Sunbelt states such as California, Florida and Arizona, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death to children under five.

Common sense pool control laws so that the State can deem a parent is fit enough to have the privilige of a pool.

(2,375 posts).........that it isn't the raw number of guns that's the issue, but WHO HAS THEM.
But hey, let's keep our dishonest moral poutrage going. It's not like folks in critical states have paid attention to what Hillary has said about "assault weapons", "gun show loopholes" etc.

(11,816 posts)Saw the original happy and shiny gun love post in the Latest Forum, and made the mistake of commenting, not noticing that it was a a post from the Gungeon, where there is no disrespecting The Precious.
And the problem with WHO HAS THEM is that EVERYONE has them and it's damned hard to get them off of nutjobs who shouldn't have them.

Why am I not surprised.
Have any constructive suggestions on how to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who shouldn't have them -- or is hand-wringing all you've got?
