Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumHave you considered buying guns in anticipation of violence from Trump supporters after his defeat?
A rather free wheeling discussion on this was locked in GD, with the statement that it belongs in this group.
Just for the record, while I'm already quite well armed, I see no reason for someone who otherwise has no interest in owning firearms to do for fear of roving gangs of disconsolate Trump supporters going on murder sprees after he loses the election, as the OP of the original thread clearly does.

(38,601 posts)Have a healthy respect for guns, but for me they are too scary to own.
Boy Im a really good shot at sporting clays, though.

(9,263 posts)at age 8 under proper eyes of my dad. I had guns in my kids hands at simialr age in teaching firearm safety, how to shoot, clean pistols and rifles. Took me many years to get my wife on board and 10 years ago we got her several pistols and revolvers for her use and spent hours at shooting range. She is a very good shot, especially with a 9mm.

(38,601 posts)Its the accidentally blowing your head off while cleaning it kind of thing that worries me. I realize people who are cautious probably dont do this, and I would be in that camp for sure.
Healthy respect for deadly things is good.

(10,136 posts)You cannot clean a loaded gun. The rounds occupy the dirty areas.

(11,545 posts)I live in the woods and keep a rifle for critter control. I see no need for more than that.

(9,263 posts)and not until the last 2 or 3 years did they start taking my warnings seriously. One reason why liberals, progressive get caught flatfooted is they always gauge the situation through their eyes and not the eyes of those with bloodlust. Can our system breakdown? Absolutely and we will be tested in the coming weeks and months

(7,911 posts)A high percentage of people who are shot, get shot with their own guns.
Besides, I don't want to play cops and robbers.
I don't want to play cowboys and Indians.
I don't want to play war.
That's not what I want my life to be about, and I refuse to be bullied into becoming the kind of violent person I abhor.

(7,603 posts)owned acreage where we had a safe spot for target shooting. These days they just are locked up. I don't really see them as much use against a somewhat organized group armed with assault weapons. This is not the movies. Anyway, I do not plan to go out and purchase anything else.
I am more concerned with loose nuts trying to take advantage of civil disorder by home invasion/burglary. In that case I do have adequate arms to protect my home....I hope. It's all a crapshoot at that point.

Being willing to die is bravery.
Killing is a choice.
Being willing to kill is a moral malaise.
I will not make that choice and rather a hermit be.

Something like: I am the weapon, everything else is just a tool.
As best expressed in the movie We Were Soldiers:
Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I think you oughta get yourself an M-16.
Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: Sir, if the time comes I need one, there'll be plenty lying on the ground.

I found a good deal on the Sig P365. I think with a tuckable IWB it will simply disappear.
I have an officer size 1911 that I don't really need. My wife's uncle really likes it so I think I will pass it along with the family discount. Also he has been wanting something for his home as he lives very close to Lake St in Minneapolis.

(2,971 posts)Only caveat: The magazines are extremely hard to load past the 5th or 6th round. Get a magazine loader if you don't have one, your fingers will thank you.
sarisataka
(21,000 posts)lucky I do have a loader laying around.
The other issue I have found is my hand is large enough that my pinky has no room with the flush magazine. That is easy to adapt to but I have to extend it out to drop the mag. It is a bit of an unusual technique.
Otherwise it is ideal, tucks away invisibly and is ridiculously accurate.
