Can the GOP split Dems again on gun amendment?

THE MTR OF GUN BILLS PAST: House Democrats are poised to vote today on two bills that aim to expand the gun background check process, including the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8) which would expand the federal background check requirement to all firearms sales. But before that vote comes about, House Republicans have a plan that could make some Democrats squirm.
Today, I am told Republicans will move to amend the bill to require a gun importer, manufacturer, or dealer to inform Immigration and Customs Enforcement of any undocumented immigrant who attempts to buy a gun. This motion to recommit (MTR) will put Dems on the spot.
I am accepting of the UBC law but not very hopeful that anything meaningful will result. As for notifying ICE of anyone "illegally or unlawfully in the United States" I'm sure I don't like idea but existing regulation prohibits them from obtaining a firearm. In terms of enforcement, I can't see private citizens ever having direct access to the either the phone line or electronic system to run background checks on their own. Therefore, I think this devolve upon FFLs providing the service and burdening them with notifying ICE or perhaps a local LE agency.
Add to the confusion the states operating full points of contact where the check is done through the home state to include its local database. Would they notify ICE if this person was denied for their immigration status discovered via the state database and not the FBI system?
