(4,074 posts)To say it won't end, it won't change, is to say that Americans are willing to accept any level of death and gore (as long as bullets do the destruction).
I reject the idea that Americans, among all cultures, are so evil as to never change the 2nd amendment regardless of how much children's blood stains the halls and walls of schools, churches, and malls.

There is no organization to blame, defeat, dissolve, or punish. These were not the actions of an organized unit of people with leaders and strategy and tactics and goals. It was a the action of a single person, perhaps aided and abetted by a parent.

(17,493 posts)I do own two handguns I legally carry concealed but I didnt buy them because I was afraid. I was living in a bad section of Tampa and I wanted an equalizer. I have moved since I retired but still carry concealed out of a 25 year habit.

(14,559 posts)That was a movement to change the attitude toward a behavior and a 'culture'. A movement that shamed a culture into changing a behavior.
There weren't a lot of new laws passed. A few were more stringently enforced. The real outcome was that those who were the problem became aware that they were the problem. They became ashamed at the foolishness of their behavior when it was pointed out to them.
This is an older version of the mask/vax controversy; truth and facts against 'freedom'.
If you're not feelin' it yet, just wait.

(4,131 posts)At the federal level we need universal: background checks, red flag laws with due process safeguards, safe storage mandates, and an entire rewrite of our NFA to bring it out of antiquity and into the 21st century (this rewrite will even be popular amongst most gun owners).
Unfortunately, there is no chance that any meaningful gun control gets passed in the current political climate. Zero.
That's just the political reality. If Sandy Hook didn't even move the needle, what will?
