Intruder pretending to be health care worker shot and killed by homeowner's son, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man who pretended to be a health care worker was shot to death after he forced his way into a home in southeast Houston, police say.

Officers in the Clear Lake area were called to a home invasion in the 12500 block of Cooperstown near Barbizon Drive at about 11:37 p.m. Monday.

According to police at the scene, the intruder tried to trick the homeowner by telling her that he was a worker with home health care.

The homeowner didn't let the stranger inside, instead calling her son who lives down the street.

By that time, the intruder broke down the door and got into the home. When the son arrived, he shot and killed the intruder, police say.

Had he not knocked down the door, different story.

Quite so. If he had simply been pounding on the door, shooting him would have been a criminal act.

See the guy who wanted a custodial visit with his kids. The boyfriend came out armed while he was arguing with his ex-wife. A struggle ensued and the guy was killed by the boyfriend. No charges for the boyfriend.

It is an example where our laws are inadequate. The prudent reponse would be to disengage from the argument and retreat to the home. If prevented from doing so, then force would be justified.

In this case you break down someone's door, then you should expect to be met with lethal force.

of a extremely atypical home invasion. What is the relationship, and motivation, here? Otherwise ... Just deranged.

open door. Here the guy is crazied in some way...I mean knocking down the door?

That had to have been noisy, neighbors could've heard. Cray-cray. The son was justified.

if they get caught, how much noise they make, etc. Get by with it a few times, it becomes a pattern for them.
