Man with concealed weapon shoots Chicago gunman in East Side neighborhood

Published: July 12, 2022 8:44PM

CHICAGO - A man with a Concealed Carry License shot a gunman who fired shots at him late Tuesday afternoon on Chicago's Far South Side.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police say the 49-year-old victim was in the parking lot of an East Side restaurant in the 4000 block of E. 106th Street when an unknown vehicle pulled up and a 19-year-old man armed with a gun got out and opened fire.

The victim then pulled out his own weapon and shot the gunman in the right hand and left foot, police said.

The 19-year-old was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. The 49-year-old victim was not injured. Police say the victim has a valid Concealed Carry License.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sounds more and more like the shoot out at the OK Corral writ large.

It would be far better if we could eliminate gun violence completely. Until then, though, I’d rather see a victim able to successfully defend themselves than see that victim become another murder statistic.

Walter Mitty syndrome. Statistically 5x more likely to be shot if the "good guy" has a gun but still they cling to the fantasy of heroism.

"Though defensive violence will always be 'a sad necessity' in the eyes of men of principle, it would be still more unfortunate if wrongdoers should dominate just men."

I've posted 4 links to defensive gun uses and none of them have been to Fox News. One (this one) went to a local Fox affiliate out of Chicago. The others all went to other sources.

Why would you fabricate an accusation like that when it is so easy to fact check and call out?

Perhaps Illinois conceal-carry laws require learning gun control.
Too bad the police "experts" amongst USa can't also learn to 'shoot to wound'.

I gather the unknown vehicle left. I suppose the not-dead 19 yo can be asked about his friends, maybe his social-media.
Do you suppose there maybe a high correlation between expressed hostility and actualized hostility?

He shot, perp stopped. Didn't kill the guy, so it's all good, right? I'm tired of the complaints of "Well, he didn't have to kill him. Just shoot him in the arm or leg." Now, it's "Well he didn't aim well enough to kill him. We have to do something about this, make the training better." Gun abolitionists need to make up their minds about what gun owners are supposed to shoot at while being confronted. Sheesh.
