At what point does a minor inconvenience in buying a gun outweigh the toll of guns everywhere. If a background check took 25 minutes instead of one and a half, would that inconvenience be enough to justify saving one life? If it took 3 days to pick up the gun you just qualified to buy would that be enough to justify saving just one life?
No one is asking people to not have guns or to give up their guns. We are asking how much inconvenience is reasonable to prevent non law abiding people from getting them. Instead of asking what we can do to reduce gun violence what if we asked the law abiding citizens what they will put up with in inconvenience to simply save one life, what would they answer?

(2,317 posts)I dont know why someone wants to purchase a firearm or why they should be subjected to some random period before being able to exercise their constitutional right to keep and bear firearms. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Carol_Bowne

Waiting periods greatly curtail gun trafficking. Gun trafficking is major source of crime guns. Crime guns do more damage than the occasional anecdote about coulda' shoulda' woulda' had a gun RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
Your "constitutional right" is NOT unlimited.
TexasDem69
(2,317 posts)Ive never once claimed that the 2d Amendment protects an unlimited right to keep and bear firearms. Waiting periods harm those who want to exercise their constitutional rights while doing nothing to curtail gun trafficking. Do you really think that waiting three days to purchase a gun deters the gun trafficker? Just admit you want to eliminate the right to keep and bear arms and confiscate all private firearms. Everyone who follows your posts knows that is your position.
Im not sure what crime guns are, but criminals are the problem, whether they use guns, knives or fists.

(3,816 posts)would that inconvenience be enough to strike down waiting periods?
"would that inconvenience be enough to justify saving one life?"
"No one is asking people to not have guns or to give up their guns."
Wrong. So wrong. Many individuals/groups are calling for the ban of most/all firearms. Including those elected to office in our own party. "Turn them in, America."

(34,202 posts)But can you explain how a 25 min background check instead of 1 1/2 min check would have prevented this shooting? Or even how a 3-day waiting period would have prevented this shooting?
Also, you wrote, "No one is asking people to not have guns or to give up their guns." This is not true.
But maybe if people stopped talking about forced "buybacks" and gun bans of some guns, we could meet in the middle and lessen the gun violence rate.
AndyS
(14,559 posts)Which is why some people want to FORCE soulutions on to those who refuse to see a problem much less a solution to it.
And we eventually will.

(34,202 posts)You made the OP and when asked questions to clarify your editorializing you get defensive and won't respond.
This is why you fail more than succeed.
AndyS
(14,559 posts)Instead of a response to a simple question I got a load of gun culture 'splaining.
"How will your _________ prevent this one specific homicide." Instead of answering the central question of how much inconvenience one life is worth.
It's not me that has nothing, Sy.

(34,202 posts)Usually, people post things in OP that are relevant to one another.
Also, when you make the claim, "No one is asking people to not have guns or to give up their guns,", then it's difficult to take you seriously. I know you know better than to make such a claim.
So with that said, I'll answer your question. Gun buyers can be inconvenienced to save lives. There is already a process that is inconvenient if you will.
AndyS
(14,559 posts)How about it? Want to weigh in on just how much inconvenience you personally are willing to put up with to possibly save a life?
