Mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and December 2023, by presence of prior signs of shooter's mental health issueshttps://www.statista.com/statistics/811557/us-mass-shootings-by-prior-signs-of-shooter-s-mental-health-issues/#statisticContainer
Adding:
The authors of the new papers, who specialize in medicine, law or both, find 40 states require reporting to NICS when a court orders an individual committed as an inpatient to a psychiatric care facility. Five states allow but do not require such reporting, while the final 5 states do not have reporting laws covering involuntary inpatient commitments.

(18,576 posts)Statistica is expensive.
Some sites presenting statistics exclude some events such as armed robbery, gang violence, or domestic violence. Others may have a higher threshold number of victims and may only count deaths.

(2,569 posts)I see the confusion, I think it's because the report is in 'military time'. So 1982 and December 2023 would be ...
Let's see, 1982, minus 1200.... 7:82 pm, rounding out as 8:22pm and 2023, minus 1200, would be 8:23 pm.
So, in one minute, on a December day, there were 149 mass shootings, which sounds about right. Well, not 'right', exactly, but close to what we're told every time a car backfires.
Hope that helps...
