and I liked Dr. Harris Perry at first quite a bit. But she has not translated well from guest to host, IMHO.

She and Rachel Maddow are both highly educated academians. Yet, Maddow never comes off as professorial or condescending to her audience. On the other hand, I find that Harris-Perry frequently does.

... I also like Melissa Harris-Perry, despite her position on car-top dog rides.

Is "Lock Up" a show? I watch online so don't see their entertainment lineup.

They talk to prisoners and prison officials and such.

It is trash that fills their air time for hours and makes some people feel
they are "safe" because those dirty criminals are in jail.

Looks like something the Republican Party is funding to make their base feel secure. Make their base seem like they can control the "bad guys."

Its obviously not worth the money to run a personality who will demand to be paid for working on their weekend evenings. I doubt MSNBC would be able to take in enough ad revenues to recoup the costs.

MSNBC has only recently had regular ratings that are even vaguely respectable. Fox still trounces them, and it wasn't that long ago that they finally caught up to or surpassed CNN -- which probably has more to do with CNN becoming entirely unwatchable. Contracts for MSNBC's talent were probably already in place. As for CNN, Wolf probably has nothing to do on a Saturday night anyway.

The Melissa Harris Perry show is smart TV. I dig it.

Lockup is boring I admit. Think of it as eating your vegetables. I'm glad some TV channel is forcing us to look at the inside of a prison so we don't forget about the million people we have locked up. We incarcerate more than any other nation. And for every 1 locked up, several more lives are affected.

It's a big business in America. A few people make a lot of money on keeping people in prison.

The whole human face of the prison system has a way of just becoming invisible unless it gets put right in front of our faces.

We should all watch prison documentaries every week. Or at least have the option if we want to.

I proposed a few months ago we here at DU pool our media talents and come up with a hip new show that partners DU with MSNBC (or DUMSNBC ...hmmm.. maybe MSNBCDU would work better. . That would be so cool to see the DU logo on MSNBC. We could submit linked video round table talks with our most talented and informed posters.
