Related: About this forumChris Matthews voted for GWB in 2000?!
I thought he was a longtime, old-school Dem! He worked for many Dems, including the late, great Tip O'Neil.
I can never decide if I like him or despise him. I hate his interviewing - talking-over-guests style, but I thought he was a true-blue Dem anyway and that was his redeeming quality.
Flabbergasted...idiotic vote.

(3,718 posts)Matthews had angled for a position in the Clinton White House...maybe as Communications Director or Press Secretary and was turned down...took his grudge out on Gore.

(16,993 posts)When he asks a question, then won't shut up to let the guest answer, it bugs me. It's rude, disrespectful, and not everyone watches his show to listen to him.
Reverend Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell are much better interviewers, and their shows are easier to watch.
I've seen Matthews allow guests to get away with lies too often, he doesn't call them out on it at times, while with other guests he does. He's inconsistent at best, and it doesn't surprise me he voted for Bush in 2000.

(797 posts)I sometimes wonder why he has guests at all as he hardly lets em get a word in, he constantly interrupts and talks over his guests, while the guy is knowledgeable and i like what he says please let your guests state their opinion, in other words shut the f..k up after you ask the question...
I've emailed the show many times but i see no improvement in his rude behavior.

(15,064 posts)I'm sure the JFK book is a good read but does he have to hawk it every show? I good journalist is inquisitive and wants to get the truth from others not constantly spout their personal version of the truth. Maybe he considers himself more of a commentator. I can on take him in very small portions. He would be a bore at a party.

(27,315 posts)MATTHEWS: I make this president look like -- you don't watch this program, Alexandra. That has never been the case with me. And anybody watching knows right now, we treat this guy [Bush] with respect. I happen to like him. I voted for him at least once. I'm not going to go any further on that. But the idea that we treat him like a dunce is just inaccurate.

MATTHEWS: Just to straighten the record out, Alexandra, back in the 2000 race, I was one of the few journalists that pointed out that George W. Bush did extremely well in those debates against Al Gore. In fact, I said he won in terms of personality, in terms of likability and fairness and on other grounds. I was the one who took a lot of heat for taking that position.
From the beginning, I've defended him on issues like saying Jesus Christ is his personal philosopher. I've defended him against the liberal elitists who did put him down. So, I don't think it's fair to say that I have in any way abused him. Do you want to take that back or do you want to start over or what here?
