Green Beret killed in Afghanistan is identified
By LUIS MARTINEZ Jan 23, 2019, 1:40 PM ET
The Pentagon identified U.S. Army Special Forces Sgt. 1st Class Joshua "Zach" Beale as the U.S. service member who was killed in combat in Afghanistan on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Green Beret was killed in Afghanistan's Uruzgan Province while conducting combat operations.
Beale was the second U.S. military death in Afghanistan in a week and in this year.
A statement from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command said that Beale succumbed to wounds sustained from small arms fire. He was assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
