Military transports replacement equipment to U.S. THAAD base in Seongju

The local citizens don't like it. Coincidentally, retired Gen. Vincent Brooks on VOA's Washington Talk program, recently commented on South Korean "misunderstanding" on THAAD missile interceptors as a threat to Chinese deterrence. If they move a launch battery in, i guess they need to move one out. Otherwise, there will be an undesirable reaction from China and costs to South Korea. As the video mentions, the movement was kind of unexpected given public statements by MOD. One wonders whether there is some quid pro quo going on with the stalled US-ROK military cost sharing negotiations.

The recent agreement to restore relations between South Korea and China was achieved by having South Korea assuage China’s security concerns through public pronouncement of the “three no’s” – no additional THAAD deployment, no participation in the US’s missile defense network and no establishment of a trilateral military alliance with the US and Japan.
