He was too old for me to know well, being around 40-ish, and I was a lowly SP5, but he was usually friendly when I encountered him. Our circles didn't intersect much, since I reported to a CPT and he reported to a LTG.
My draftee service ended in May '68. CSM Dondero was blown up by a rocket in Quang Duc about a year-and-a-half later.
RIP.
