at SphincterLips' saying the other day, during his Maria Bartiromo interview, "And I think it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, National Guard or if really necessary by the military"?
Granted, I didn't join the Army National Guard until I was almost 51 years old (with no prior service), yet when I went to Camp Liberty Iraq in 2008-2009, it sure seemed as though I was in "the military." I realize that quite a number of my Active Duty friends referred to us as "Nasty Girls," yet in the midst of a MASCAL, no one asked me what component I belonged to.
Since TFG had the position of Commander-in-Chief, I feel annoyed that he seems not to care enough to know that mobilized National Guard personnel are *definitely* "the military."
Of course, the whole premise of turning the military against US civilians on US soil, is anathema and absolutely disqualifying for the Office he's seeking. I'm just pissed off at this insult on top of that injury.

I think about the guard every storm, flash flood alert, train derailment, etc. I know a lot of that is active Guard but units do get called up.

(941 posts)The Guard is controlled by the state government, by the governors. While active duty military are controlled by the federal government, by the President. The Guard can be federally activated by the President, at that time they come under the command and control of the military service command system.

(535 posts)My fellow soldiers and I were in SE Asia at the time this happened and just about every one of us was incensed about it. Unlike todays troops, we served from a different generation, older, better educated, and selected from a wider population of the country, many of us having been drafted. The mentality of many of todays more recent volunteer veterans might not be the same.

(2,096 posts)The first thing I thought about was what a spot it would put the military members in, since they are not supposed to follow illegal orders.
Sorry, I should have read your whole post before I posted. Yes, I took umbrage at that as well.
