Preempting Project 2025 VA reforms
Heya guys. Ive been pinging VSOs about preemptively opposing Project 2025. Im posting the letter I wrote as a template if you want to do the same.
To whom it may concern,
Although specific legislation has not yet been introduced by President-elect Trump, I am concerned about many of the proposals suggested by the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025.
Among the specific concerns I have are:
1. The elimination of concurrent military retirement and VA monetary disability benefits.
2. Rescheduling of disabilities or a new rating system which would reduce the benefits for current or future VA disability benefit applicants.
3. Removal of VA civil servants and replacing them with political appointees. Any potential reduction in the number of VA staff/employees could have disastrous effects on those relying on an already overburdened system.
4. Reduction or elimination of health care coverage for veterans with a disability rating by the VA, both for current enrollees or potentially for new applicants.
Regrettably, it is a safe assumption that the DAV's legislative team is now inundated with such concerns and it is impossible to predict specific legislative proposals in the coming months. Likewise, it is important to maintain a non-partisan agenda making it possible to work with both the government and the public in the future. In the face of such challenges, I believe it is inescapably critical to preemptively oppose such reforms at any stage of the political planning process.
Thank you for your time.
Very respectfully,
