Wish I'd have known this back in 1971

Geffen is able to avoid the Vietnam draft thanks to advice from actor friend Robert Drivas. He checks
“yes” to the question, “Do you have any homosexual tendencies?” The draft board classifies him as
“physically or mentally unable to serve.”

But don't get me wrong, going to the service was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

2. Wonder if it depended on where your draft board was located?

Pretty sure that's one of the questions I would have had to answer in K.C.MO., been a long time ago.

David Lawrence Geffen (born February 21, 1943)[1] is an American film producer, record executive, and
media proprietor. In music, he co-founded Asylum Records with Elliot Roberts in 1971 before founding
Geffen Records in 1980, DGC Records in 1990, and co-founding DreamWorks Records (with Mo Ostin,
Michael Ostin and Lenny Waronker) in 1996. In film, he founded the Geffen Film Company in 1986 and
co-founded DreamWorks SKG (with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg) in 1994.

4. "one of the best things"

I suppose 1971 is when Geffen hinted at "any" homosexual tendencies (does fascination with Broadway musicals count?).

1971 was one of the ugliest years of the Vietnam War. I have encountered a lot of Vietnam vets who do not think their time in service was "one of the best things" that could have happened; many are disabled in body or mind as a result of that no-win war.

were the most supportive of our Iraq vets when they came home from the Gulf with PTSD and other ailments. Ask me how I know.
