Army vet deported to Jamaica after 50 years in U.S.

A Jamaican-born U.S. Army veteran who lived in the United States for more than five decades has been deported to Jamaica, according to his family and federal officials. Godfrey Oliver Wade was a lawful permanent resident who served honorably in the U.S. Army before building his life in Georgia.

His daughter, Christian Wade, confirmed the removal in a statement to Newsweek. She said her father told the family he had begun the “outtake process” and believed he was already on a flight to Jamaica. “Unfortunately, my dad will be arriving in Jamaica today.”

Federal immigration authorities acknowledged the deportation and cited a long-standing removal order as the basis for the action.
