Will they or won’t they? That’s the question for the nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, which is expected to announce Monday morning whether it will consider the case of the cross at the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial.

The court has been asked to review what proponents of it staying in place say is the longest running religious liberty case of its kind in U.S. history.

At issue is a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling which says the cross has to go because it represents an unlawful endorsement of the Christian religion on federal property.

The Mount Soledad Memorial Association has asked the court to step in and issue a final decision in the long-running battle. Whether it will should be know early Monday when the court announces the remaining cases it will consider this year. If the court doesn’t agree to take up the case, the latest appeal goes back to the 9th Circuit.
