...I did a "try 1" at the local Air National Guard unit and handed my IAR card in exchange for an ANG card when I was sworn in at the time.

I didn't re-up after the "try 1" year and didn't receive a new IAR card when I was done with the ANG.

Our state recently added “Veteran” on the drivers license. You just have to bring a DD214 in and complete a form.

This link is a private concern not the V A. Take your DD214 to the eligibility office at any V A hospital and your enrolled. You will get benefits too not just an I D. This is more privatization of services that apparently don't work well on purpose to push the lie that the V A doesn't work. Every vet I know that uses the VA loves it. A little effort and your taken care of for life.

The new v a website makes it look like with income you may not qualify but you do. must be trumps tricks to keep people out. The only thing income affects is the amount of co pay you pay for meds and appointments. Bring your DD-214 to the elIgibility office at any major medical facility and you will be in. A disability rating helps to get some care but you do not need one to join . Its worth the trip.

I was home and went to the West L.A. VA Hospital. Updated my financial status, posed for my picture, and was told it would be mailed to me in two weeks. The whole process took as long as it took me to stand in line to grab a coffee and danish beforehand, easy peasy.

My VA hospital is 110 miles away and the nearest HCC is 70 miles away. My basic clinic is close. I go to my primary care doctor and have blood work done in the clinic near me. Every other doctor I have is 15-20 miles away from me, which is the nearest city. Surgery is performed at the hospital 15 miles away. I do not pay a penny for all this and if you are on a VA co pay, that is all you will pay the VA. The VA needs over 40,000 more doctors, nurses and technicians but Congress won't give them the money.

and so far it's been great. My VA is less than 10 miles away, but the wait for a primary care DR. is at least a couple of months.
