To me it has been a mystery as to why After a trooper hits E-8 they have no sense humor. And the mst sgt informed this former corporal that if you take the Nco academy via correspondence then you retain your sense of humor. But if you attend the academy in person it is removed and you can I quote our polack mst sgt(you will be able to crack walnuts with your ass cheeks end quote.) after reading that I was like wow glad I never made it a career.
So my point I know two senior retired Ncos both made E-9 my great uncle Korea and Vietnam. And then my friend sgt major Vietnam and the gulf war first gulf war. Now yesterday we all went out to a steakhouse Im buying so come on guys lets go eat. So as the nice young waitress is taking our order these two now remember Im buying lunch. They get a attitude as to ok we ordered the soup and salad bar but your still charging us 1.85$ for the baked potato with our steaks.
I want to talk to the manager my great uncle tells the kid. Im thinking look we got the vet discount knock it off I say. So the manager comes over and short of putting him in flex cuffs and water boarding by my uncle and sgt major. We got the upcharge on salad bar and the baked potatoes on the house. I left the waitress the difference on salad bar and the potatoes in her tip. She did ok I always tip above and beyond. But in the car on way home I told them both that the Easter bunny is bringing them walnuts so you two tight asses better start cracking.

(16,296 posts)nice guy, went a mile out of his way to help you - but, when he went out to eat he became the worst tight ass in the world. He'd order a medium drink and told his wife not to order one, they'd share that one. On one fine day his wife rebelled and said if he loved her , he'd let her get her own drink - she did- but he wasn't happy about it. He'd come back from the potato bar with every side he could pile on that spud. And a tip left on the table - forget that shit.

(3,163 posts)I knew several E-9 Master Chief Petty Officers, and all of them were the finest men I ever served with. (No women in the submarine service back then.) Serious when it came to business, but equally serious about taking care of the men who served under them.
If one of these guys didn't want to pay $1.85 for a baked potato, he would simply not have ordered it. There is no way he would have been so rude as to order it and then complain to the manager about having to pay for it. Of course in those days (during the "Cold War) we were courteous to civilians, and did not expect them to thank us for our service.
I just find these two amusing and they were not rude. But well just making a point in their minds but well their tightwads. And the post was meant as a joke. Like you I served with some fine warriors in the 82nd and then as treadhead mech infantry in west Germany. I was embarrassed but hey I cut em slack. Today were going play cards my wife and sons out of town. So if I start losing Ill charge em 5$ a beer.
