Getting a carotid scan today
Belatedly wondered if my insurance will cover it. It took me 20 minutes to find my Medicare and insurance books for 2026. Were right where they should be, but of course, I had to poke around and look where they might be. Ha. It looks like the scan is covered. If not, I'll remember to ask before they want anything else.
I saw a vascular specialist in Feb. or March. The nurse checked the circulation in my feet, which was okay. Told me to take low-dose aspirin and wear compression socks. They want a follow up in Sept and this scan is for that appt. Toe to head.
I had diverticulitis for the first time, diagnosed 12/29. My primary care ordered follow up with a couple specialists. So far, they haven't spotted other problems. I have had a thorough check-up for a long time, so it'll be out of the way soon.
I know I need to manage my important papers better and I need to ask questions instead of assuming my health insurance is still covering as well as it has in the past. I'm lucky that I haven't had a lot of medical issues as I age, hope that continues. Maybe that's why I misplace the papers, and don't read the fine print.

My wife had her carotid cleaned out by surgery by the ‘slice and scoop’ method. BTW… Don’t ever say that to a vascular surgeon mine got a little pissed at me.
I had mine done last year. Went in through the artery in my groin with a stent placed in my carotid.
No visible scar on the neck and a couple days of recovery time.
Piece of pie!…I like pie better than cake.
He got thru the surgery fine, and is home. He's had a number of small strokes and I truly hope the surgery helps him.

I switched insurance beginning the 1st of this year and I’ve learned to ask what it pays for first before any procedure (if at all possible). I really hate that we have to be so hyper vigilant about it. In one instance I had x rays (in April) and the radiologist’s office billed my old insurance despite the fact I showed my new insurance card to the receptionist prior to having the X-rays and I saw that she copied it with my orders from the doctor. Of course my old insurance just sent me an EOB with the claim denied just to confuse me more. Hadda make 4 phone calls to straighten it out.

Less than 50% stenosis on both sides.
There was no copay or cost. Happy about that!
