I had a lot of problems with hormones and cycles for years and finally found a doctor who recommended just taking everything out in 2002. I used hormone patches for a while but gave them up.

My problems included menopause type symptoms and migraines, all of which went away after the hysterectomy. But the problems had gone on for twenty plus years before a gynecologist was sympathetic and willing to help me. My mother had a horrendous menopause that basically lasted fifteen years so I was happy to avoid all of that.

Take care of yourself - it's something half the human race just doesn't understand.

My puberty was uneventful -- no mood swings, acne, or teenage angst -- and menopause was equally undramatic: No hot flashes, mood swings or other disruptions.

My cycles were a nightmare from day one. I reacted badly to the changes in hormones with cramps and migraines - every month from age 13 to 50. Week long migraines twice a month for all those years. It got worse as I got older. That's why the doctor went ahead and removed everything. The last nineteen years have been so much better.

I even read about a woman who was allergic to her hormones and nearly died. I think I had a mild form of that.

You were sooooo lucky!

That sounds like an incredibly distressing syndrome. My wife had early menopause, with hot flashes and dizziness. She also felt so much better after she had all her plumbing removed.

Are they using the hormone patches?

I used those and at first my insurance company would not approve the brand name, but would only authorize the generic - which did not release the hormones consistently. That put me back almost to where I was before the hysterectomy. So my doctor wrote a new prescription requiring the brand name.

Every time my husband's company changed insurance coverage - almost annually - we went through this argument with the pharmacy. That was a major reason I just said to hell with it, I will live just fine without hormones.
