At least for this 55 year old divorcee who was once married to a guy who morphed into a bible thumping, Limbaugh (ugh) listening Republican. Now I'm dating a true bleeding heart, pacifist, liberal, tree hugging man. An environmental lobbyist.
I had given up on dating for years after that bitter divorce. There are still some great, cool guys out there. I had really given up all hope. Hope this F*ckin' works out. So far so good! No more marriage for me though. Never!

There are indeed lots of good guys out there - good, decent, honorable and reasonable men who believe in treating ALL others the way that they themselves would like to be treated, whether they label themselves "Progressive/Liberal" or not. I have been very fortunate, both in my personal and professional life, to have known several.
I am married to one (32+ years and still going strong ...) and have worked with/for many more others.
Don't ever give up.

(4,309 posts)Wow. That is very cool. You should both be very proud.
And I agree - "Don't ever give up."
Sad to say he was a pretty nice, apolitical guy until around 2001. Then he went redneck and started to get abusive. The marriage was toxic to me. Took a long time to get over it.

(33,539 posts)They are. . . I was single until I was 39 - never married and no kids prior to then. Along the way I learned that there are certain core values that conservative men and I did not share.

(4,309 posts)I don't think I would share many values at all with a conservative guy.

I'd tell him to wear it proudly.
