Omaha police say they will be present for a demonstration planned for late this afternoon at 120th Street and West Center Road to protest recent police shootings of black men.
Demonstrators will gather at the intersection and may engage in peaceful but disruptive civil disobedience, according to a Facebook post.
Police said today that officers will be at the protest to provide security and ensure that the protest is peaceful.
We will have a presence, only to the extent necessary to ensure the safety of both the protesters and public in the immediate area, a police spokeswoman said in an email. Towards that end, the department will be in communication with the protesters to ensure a peaceful platform for not only their freedom of speech exercise, but also to ensure the safety and lawfulness of the assembly itself.
