After years of harsh criticism from both Left and Right

it is quite refreshing to see both the vast, vast majority of the DU community as well as a surprising number of Republicans acknowledge just how fucking amazing and badass our President truly is.

Of course many of us - particularly in the African-American and Barack Obama Groups - have always been keenly aware of our great fortune to have had this wonderful man as our President over the past 8 years, but it is still nice to see everyone else finally "catch up."

Thank you, President Obama! I am going to miss you so fucking much!

privatizing Social Security was on the table, he was just playing with the Republicans because he knew full well they'd never want to give him any credit for passing the programs they wanted the most.

Yeah, I'll miss him a great deal. He's still young, so I imagine the next part of his life will be just as amazing as the first parts have been.

Everyone makes mistakes, but he is so calm, so thoughtful and has put up with so much absolute nonsense for all these years and still maintained his cool confidence always. He is truly a great leader. I am happy we will likely have a new president who values his presidency and will continue his legacy.

if he had not met with such unprecedented obstructionism in Congress.

I am not naive, I knew there were many racists in this country, but I never realized exactly how pervasive it is until he took office. As Bill Maher says when he speaks of the President's accomplishments he can see some people saying in their head "but you know he is black right?"

I am sure the same sad lessons about mysogyny are ahead of us if we win this election. We must win.

Most of the buffoons in this country will be telling their kids how they ALWAYS supported him.
Of course, how can you doubt me?

Of course they will scramble to the right side of history when they talk to the next generation. It's the Republican way

The closer we get to the end of his term, the more I think people are realizing how lucky we have been over the last eight years to have such a good, honest, trustworthy, inspirational man representing and leading us. He has always handled himself with dignity and class despite having to deal with heaping amounts of (often racist) bullshit, and has been a much more progressive president than some are willing to acknowledge. He will be remembered as one of the greatest. I'm gonna miss him like hell, but I can't wait to see what he does post-presidency either.

is that many of the site's biggest anti-Obama trolls got booted out, but also more people have moved on from dragging his name through the mud to now going after HC. As for Obama himself, I expect his popularity to spike once he leaves office and the longer he's gone. He has accomplished a lot in 8 years in spite of coping with a hostile Congress for the past 6 years, and history will be kind to him.
