More effective outreach needed for young black voters

The New York Times has an article out discussing the distaste that many young black voters have toward both Trump and Clinton.

However, the article mentions that many of Clinton's positions on criminal justice reform, police conduct and tackling systemic racism are not well-known.

The campaign needs to do better getting the message out - the Obama coalition has to stick together for us to have a realistic shot at victory!

So there might be a bias in his presentation.

The data would be valuable.

Then again, both campaigns probably have the data. Campaigns have data about EVERYTHING.

I think the campaign needs more outreach to our community. And I'd specifically like to see outreach to the Black Lives Matter movement.

If the data was real, then the campaign would have to act, and I would be interested to see what they would choose to do. For example, Hillary spoke at an HBCU. That was powerful. Better than a church. Definitely outreach to our youth, outreach to a group that might campaign.

I would like to see more, but it's probably too late in the season.

I have spent the past hour thinking about your words.

I will definitely vote for Hillary. I voted for her in the primary. But is campaigning the right thing to do when I have so many questions and doubts. Recently, someone said that the race is not close. I disagree. Democrats stay home. And Republicans win. GOTV is sooooooooo important.

I went to the MOVEON.org site and they are going to fight against Trump. Knowing that some of their members don't like Hillary. They are specifically campaigning down-ticket, as a GOTV effort. And believing that once people get to the polls, they will vote for her.

Maybe that is where I belong. Until I can do enough research to satisfy myself on my issues of concern.

BettyEllen, thank you for opening my eyes. Really. Thank you.

questions is in order. It is a path I have taken myself over the past year. I wish more people would do it. Every negative conversation I have had about Hillary in the last few months have been with people who were either very ill informed or not even sure why they don't like her.

Much of the animus is personal. Much is a basic lack of understanding how government works. The RW memes are stubborn things, as is the general smears at the entire party Sanders engaged in. I have met many people who don't know who is driving the investigations, let alone why. I've met a lot of young people who believed that Sanders alone could wipe out their school debts and magically do a dozen other great things - all by himself. Sucked to see their faces fall when I explained about congress. A lot of people- all ages -do not understand the problems with congress or the supreme court. They think blaming the GOP is too simple- yet they know little about their obstruction.

We are in a bubble, and the ignorance out there is astounding. A lot of young people got "interested" in politics, but not interested in learning how shit works. They may decide, after learning the revolution can't happen overnight that they want to give up. They don't like how things are but are willing to do nothing now that it is not so easy. Honestly with some I think they just need more life experience to get over their disappointment and inertia. I think a lot of people are completely disenchanted and falling for this "outsider good/ political bad" silliness. They need to take responsibility that they are part of the populace helping the obstructionists and wasting all our tax money at this point. They thought they wanted to help the country but decided to withdraw why? Because they expected a perfection that never existed?

I have friends who think this way and some have a very romantic view of the world. And a pragmatic, incremental uphill fight is just distasteful to them. It's frustrating, but their expectations were ridiculous. Both Sanders and Trump preyed on those with crazy expectations and I see my role as a reality check. There is no Santa Claus. There are only people who fight (mostly) for or against your basic values.

I just went and researched the Clinton Foundation. VERY misunderstood. If charitywatch gives it an "A", and less than 12% of the budget goes to admin, that's good stats and the haters need a lesson in how charities work.

There are other little doubts that I have to deal with. The big one being Hillary in bed with Wall Street. I read an article a few minutes ago that says that Wall Street loves Democrats. And has for decades. When you think about it, Obama has made Wall Street quite wealthy. Under Bush, they crashed, under Obama, they got bailed out. Who should they love?

Under Obama there have been regulations. As long as Hillary maintains them, I'm happy.

I think the "corruption" smear has been eating me, and looking at her platform, I feel confident that she will maintain regulations that Obama put in place. That just leaves Haiti. A serious mess. An example of big business not solving a country's economic problems. And her plan is to grow jobs via business again. I wish she had a better plan. But to suggest that taxes will pay for infrastructure fixes doesn't go over well.

At any rate, I'm almost on board. I wish I knew why the Haiti textile venture didn't work. I will keep digging.
