(16,104 posts)is described as completely cathartic as a shared collective experience for the theater-goers!
It stands the "traditional" horror movie on its head - if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about!
At the same time, it is merely another reflection of America today, in a great film that has so much realistic commentary on race relations it is truly a film within a film!

(47,209 posts)And forth I went between those two thoughts. Just the whole thing where people "joke" about being scared/ uncomfortable but the fear and discomfort is still there beneath it all. Even though I'd figured out most of it in advance, it shook me up.

(11,243 posts)Every minute was entertaining, but at the same time managed to be intellectually challenging. I took my teenagers and they loved it too.
It also made a metric shit-ton of money, which should force the industry to recognize that black actors and film makers other than Denzel Washington can be bankable. Jordan Peele can write his own ticket now, but it should also open up opportunities for other young POC in film. And the one who controls the narrative will win the game. Or at least score a bunch of points for the team!
